He is the author of GartnerÂ’s enterprise information management maturity model, has compiled several hundred real-world examples of the "art of the possible" with data and analytics, edited and co-authored an eBook on Big Data for the Financial Times, and is a two-time recipient of GartnerÂ’s annual thought leadership award. Around the turn of the millennium, Doug originated the field of Infonomics, developing methods to quantify and harvest informationÂ’s economic value, and positing how to apply traditional asset management practices to information assets. Die ersten Diskussionen mit meinem Kollegen Doug Laney reichen Jahre zurück. Im Prinzip ist man sich ja einig, daß Informationen einen erheblichen Wert für Unternehmen oder Organisationen darstellen. Die systematische und betriebswirtschaftiche Erfassung dieses Wertes von Informaitonen ist aber - noch - die Ausnahme, zumal Bilanzierungsvorschriften eine Bilanzierung als immaterielles Vermögen verhindern. Dougs Buch gibt konkrete Beispiele, wie Informationen wertschöpfend eingesetzt werden. Und er stellt ein Konzept vor, wie eine systematische Erfassung des Werts von Informationen umgesetzt werden kann. Informationen sind ein zentraler Wettbewerbsfaktor im digitalen Zeitalter, und Infonomics ist ein absolut lesenswertes Handbuch, wie man mit dieser Resource gewinnbringend umgehen kann.
Boring. Tedious. Repetitive. In dire need for a competent editor. Many paragraphs, even whole pages could be summarized into a single sentence. The author unnecessaely quotes hundreds of his customers and industry contacts, with titles, names and companies with blurbs that are likely there to stroke ego. After 2 chapters the writing detoriates markedly, and became so bland and empty I started skipping through the remaining chapters.If you enjoy reading a cross breed of email, corporate memo and a Gartner report then this book is for you.
